COVID-19 Update in Gabon by Patrick Eyogo

As of April 7th, Gabon had 30 cases of COVID-19 and 1 death of a compatriot with comorbidity. As the first cases came from people returning from Europe, the local contamination appears to be relatively contained for the moment.

Gabon has instituted a curfew from 7.30 pm to 6 am. The protective measures prescribed by the WHO have been in place for almost a month now. The administration has reduced its working hours as well as some private companies which have introduced an “all-day” service without the long lunch break.

Businesses offering non-essential products or services such as bars, restaurants and nightclubs have been closed for a month.

Few measures announced by the government:

• free public transport with respect of social distancing
• implementation of 60 screening centres
• creation of a food bank
• numerous financial aids (free water and electricity for the most vulnerable…).

Since April 13th, a total confinement of Greater Libreville has started for a period of 14 days (for now).

We are hoping that our request towards the authorities to postpone the deadlines of some mandatory filings of financial information will be accepted. In addition, we are now in the process of adapting many of our services to online solutions for our clients.
